When Rome fell, the world was set back a few thousand years. Under Rome, there was plumbing, technology, advanced cities, international highways, complicated and advanced forms of government — there was civilization.
But as Rome collapsed, civilization gave reign to barbarianism, and the Dark Ages befell the world — well over a thousand years of darkness existed over culture and technology.
Is the End of the World at Hand?
I don’t think civilization is going to end. I do think it’s unavoidable that China and India will replace the US as the economic powerhorses of the world within the next few decades — Jim Rogers and George Soros just take that for granted, as do most other rich investors and businessmen.
But the end of the world? Much less likely. For the world to end, we’d need to have a major part of our infrastructure taken out beyond repair– the Internet, all power grids, agriculture, etc. It’s going to take something akin to World War III to actually take civilization and wipe it out.
Even then, if Western Civilization was taken a few hundred years back, that doesn’t mean it would be the same around the world — chances are, China would be doing better than we’d be doing, and could probably recover quicker than we could, because they seem to be less dependent on advanced technology.
So is the world going to end? Probably not.
Why You Should Prepare Just in Case
Even if you don’t think the Apocalypse is unavoidable, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t invest in a manner that will take care of yourself, your family, and your friends in case things do go majorly South.
From a purely mathematical standpoint, I’m pretty sure things aren’t going to cave in… but I’m not positive. It’s kind of like how I’m pretty sure I won’t get in an accident this week, but I’ll use the seatbelt every time I get in the car. It’s too risky not to do so. Even if there’s just a 1% chance, then it’s worth it to plan for a worst-case scenario.
How to Prepare for Doomsday
To prepare for doomsday, just look over the following steps. Most of these steps are useful for just every day life, but if you haven’t already taken them, then get on it — before the world ends, of course.
- Buy Guns. When civilization goes, you’re going to have half the world willing to kill for a bag of rice. If you don’t own a gun, you’re being stupid. I actually started a website a few weeks ago on the topic of teaching people how to buy guns online.
- Buy Food. If you don’t have food, you’ll starve pretty quick. Buckets of rice, beans, veggie and fruit gardens, learn how to hunt — all of this works to provide you with foodstuff should things get hairy.
- Buy Land. Land in a rural area is absolutely necessary if things get bad. Living in the city when things collapse will be effectual suicide. The city is nice if you like living in civilization — but once it ends, so will you. Hopefully, you’ll own enough land to plant gardens and orchards, or to even hunt on.
- Buy Tools. If you don’t have tools, go buy some. I … shouldn’t have to explain why this is the case.
- Buy Gold. Here’s where it gets fun. Buy gold coins, plus some silver. When the economy is beginning to be pieced back together again, you’re going to want to have some kind of fundamental currency so you can start trying to get back to a halfway normal lifestyle. At least, that’s what I’m going to do.
In the end, I don’t think the world will end anytime soon. But I’m ready just in case it does.
